Description

Added by Dawson Russell

This amazing 3 hour hike loop in Southern New Mexico features tree covered, running streams and open 360 panoramic views.

Starting out at 7,200 feet you walk through 2 miles of relatively flat, beautiful forests and streams - at mile 2 you begin the ascent to the trail ridge with about an 800 foot elevation climb. Once you reach the top of the trail, you are surrounded by gorgeous panoramic views of both Sierra Blanca, the Capitans and Nogal Peak.

Once at the top, you have about 1.5 miles down to the road to finish up the loop. Don't worry, you will be walking on a gravel road for a little while at the end but the views at the top make it all worth it.

Myself and my pregnant wife finished the hike in exactly 3 hours with several stops to take photos and water breaks.

The top of the hike would be a great place for a picnic. This is in a system of loops so be sure to go right once you reach the Peak Ridge Trail sign. (see sign photo above).

Enjoy!
