Camp at Floyd Bennett Field

Brooklyn, New York

Description

Added by Michael Martineau

Get an escape from the hustle of city life without having to travel too far.

Brooklyn isn't just for the urban and trendy, its also for the people who love getting outside! Located just past the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn, Floyd Bennett Field is a National Recreation Area that features an Aviator Sports & Event Center (this was formerly an important NYC airport), the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy, the Brooklyn Golf Center and, yes, camping.

The campground has 32 tent sites and 9 RV sites, each large enough for six people. Every campsite has enough amenities for traditionalists and glampers alike: a picnic table, charcoal grill, and a fire ring, with restrooms and showers nearby, as well as an on-site Camp Store at which essentials like firewood, snacks, and coffee can be purchased.

The summer months, naturally, will be more crowded, but worth the trip, as NY weather will be at its best. Rates are $20 per night for a maximum of 14 nights, and the park is open from May through October. Plan to stay for at least a few days and nights to fit in kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, and plenty of other outdoor activities. Be sure to check out their Calendar of Events before you go, for ways to make your trip extra special. And be sure to reserve online if you plan to go during busier months.

For easiest access from the city, take the 5 or 2 train to the Q35 bus.
