Kingsland Wildflowers
Brooklyn, New York
Description
Added by The Outbound Collective
Kingsland Wildflowers is a rooftop meadow located atop Broadway Stages in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood, offering 24,000 square feet of native plants like bee balm, purple aster, and wild strawberries. The green space, a collaboration between Alive Structures, New York City Audubon, and the Newtown Creek Alliance, overlooks an industrial landscape. Within the urban surroundings, the meadow provides a thriving habitat for local birds, bats, and insects, with plants that are self-sustaining and native to New York.
Kingsland Wildflowers serves as both an ecological project and a community space, hosting school groups, public events, art installations, and an annual Fall Festival. Funded by the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund, the meadow contributes to environmental conservation in a heavily industrialized area. Visitors can explore the space during scheduled events or by arranging a visit through the project’s website.
