Zoar River Valley
Gowanda, New York
Description
Added by Caitlin Marczewski
Large gorge with great views. Great for hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, fishing and bird watching.
There are many trails here with many entrances. This is a DEC multiple use area and is completely free. Most of the trails start out at the top of the gorge and go along the edge of it. There are also many trails that gradually head into the gorge and allow you to walk right in the river. In the spring, this is a great place to raft because of the high water volume. In the summer, many people kayak or fish here. The fall in New York is beautiful as the trees have stunning foliage all around the gorge. This area gets a lot of snow so hiking in the winter would be difficult but it has some great trails in the surrounding area for snowshoeing.
