About this place

Added by Michael Martineau

Multiple routes ranging from 5.7-5.10 with a truely unique view of the Adirondack Park.

Owls Head Mountain is a hot spot when it comes to hiking. For climbers, it's a great crag to hone in your skills and practice moving fluidly. The height of the wall is on the smaller side, I'd say somewhere around 50-55 feet. The view and rock quality, however, that is the real draw.

Once you've parked (be sure not to block the road or the driveways to the homes in the area) trek your way up. It should only take you about 15 to 20 minutes to hike up and in. It's a good warm up. Once you get close to the summit you'll start to get a sense of the view you'll have while climbing. Just before the summit, you will see a small path to your right leading down, that is where you will belay from/start your climb.

Set up your top rope anchor, rap down, and pick your route. Take your time and make sure you stop to enjoy the view as you make your way up.

Two things to note. One, due to visitors blocking the road/driveways and leaving trash on the trail (shame on them!) the owners of this private land have decided to close it down on weekends. At the end of the 2017 hiking season, they will be shutting down the trail for good. (DEC is working on a new trail to the summit from the back side since the summit is not on private land). Two, the wind seems to funnel right by the wall. On high wind days, you'll be fighting with it as well as the route you choose to climb.
