Description

Added by Freya Sawbridge

At 1800 metres on the Sealy Range, Mueller Hut provides a 360-degree panorama encompassing glaciers, ice cliffs, vertical rock faces and New Zealand’s highest peaks.

One of the most spectacular hikes in New Zealand next to New Zealand's highest mountain - Mount Cook (aka Aoraki).

5.2km one way, it is a tough ascent. The first part of the track ascends to Sealy tarns. This involves climbing zig zag stairs where you will be rewarded with a spectacular view over Hooker valley and can even enjoy lunch at a large picnic table. Many walkers choose to stop the hike here.

If you desire, you can continue the hike up to Muller hut. In Summer this involves scrambling over rocks but in winter this gets covered by snow but is no less difficult. You can stay overnight at Muller Hut and wakeup for a glorious sunrise. In summer the a place at the hut must be booked in advance.

The hike takes about 5-6 hours round trip
