Description

Added by Katie Kessel

A short but challenging hike ending with stunning views of Lake Wanaka, Roy Peak and the surrounding area.

This is an awesome hike with views similar to Roy Peak but more varied terrain (and less of a climb as the mountain only hits 775m. The drive is only ~10 minutes outside Wanaka.

From the Diamond Lake trailhead, follow the track from the end of the car park towards Diamond Lake. From the Lake, follow the signs towards the mountain. In the first kilometer, you will see signs for the Lake Lookout. This sidetrip is right off the track and stops on a platform right above the lake.

From the lookout, continue up the hill towards the mountain. The track is easy to follow in the summer, with options at two points to follow either the east track or the west track. The East track has views of the lake, however you can hike it as a loop taking one up and one down.

Please be advised that there are some steep sections of the trail and if there is snow you should be cautious on your way up/down.
