A straightforward hiking route leads to the summit of Mt Guy. Views over lake Clearwater to the Southern Alps are jaw-dropping.
Park at the Lake Clearwater trailhead where you are immediately greeted by some of the best alpine views in New Zealand. The hiking track follows the lake shore around the west end before breaking off to the right and ascending Mt Guy in typical New Zealand fashion, without switchbacks. After a long and steep climb you arrive at Mt. Guy's summit where you are rewarded with 360 degree alpine views.
Even if the weather is calm at the car park, anticipate freezing winds at the summit and pack accordingly. As always, follow strict Leave No Trace ethics, bring a ziploc freezer bag for your rubbish and don't forget your 10 essentials.
