Tough but rewarding 30 mile backpacking trip, perfect for a weekend!

Beginning at either Davidson River Campground or Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp on the Little East Fork Pigeon River, this 30.1 mile backpacking trail takes you through the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina.  With a total elevation gain of 7,887 ft from Davidson River Campground, this is a relatively tough hike but very worth it.  We hiked from Davidson River Campground, which means the first day and a half we were slogging through the woods on the ascent.  The last day we made the final ascent to Black Balsam Knob and witnessed the most amazing sunrise.
