Featuring one of the most scenic balds on the Appalachian Trail, the hike to Bradley Gap is moderately-steep with a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding North Carolina and Tennessee mountains. This hike is ideal for a half-day exploration, picnic lunch, sunset date, or stargazing session!
Bradley Gap rests along the Appalachian Trail overlooking North Carolina and Tennessee mountains. Part of the Roan Highlands, Bradley Gap can be accessed via Yellow Mountain Gap Trailhead. Follow the Roaring Fork Trail from the trailhead until you intersect the Appalachian Trail (White Blaze) approximately 3/4 mile into the hike. Take a right and follow the AT for 1.55 miles until you reach Bradley Gap. You will cross Little Hump Mountain as well as some other mountain balds along the way.
Bradley Gap features an incredible bald with a full 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding mountain range. The grassy field contains several boulder clusters and isolated trees. There are several makeshift fire pits to have a small fire and watch the sunset.
The view from Bradley Gap is accessible to almost all skill levels, however, bring plenty of water and be prepared for a semi-strenuous uphill climb the entire walk there. Pack a light rain jacket as storms often roll in quickly. This is an ideal spot for a picnic, to watch the sunset, or even stargaze. Bring a camera as you will find some out-of-this-world views!
