Kayak Swepsonville River Park to Saxapahaw Lake Paddle Access

Graham, North Carolina

Description

Added by Simone Adams

This 5.5-mile stretch of the Haw River, often called "Sweps to Sax", is perfect for beginners or a relaxing paddle. This section of the river sits between two dams and creates waters calm enough for an out-and-back paddle if you want to double the mileage.

When you put in at Swepsonville River Park, after a half-mile paddle you will come to Purveyor Dam where you will exit the main river via the portage on the left. This is the mill race that used to power the old mill still standing at the end of the shallow creek. Exit the water at the dock and walk your watercraft down the steps and the short trail to the next creek. Re-enter your watercraft in the creek and paddle back to the river. From this point below the dam is a 5-mile paddle to the take-out point. Where the river widens is Saxapahaw Lake. There is another dam at the end of the lake. Look for the signs to exit river left.
