Fun ride across the waterway with good views of the surrounding islands and also some wild horses.

Once on Harker Island you can explore the lighthouse, walk some of the trails, walk along the beach and look for seashells and go swimming.

There are many good informative signs on Harker island explaining the history of the area.

My kids and I spent the day exploring Cape Lookout Lighthouse and the island it is on. The Park Rangers were amazingly helpful and where so good to my boys who were full of questions. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse and had the best views! Can’t wait to go back and explore Shackleford Island and see the wild ponies!
