Hiking to this bucket list destination is nothing short of extraordinary.
The hike to Kjerag is just about 10 kilometers long and takes anywhere from 6 to 10 hours to complete if you're planning on making it a day hike. If you go any faster than that you will surely skip past some of the inspiring views and nature that lies along the entire hike.
The hike sits near the southern shore of Lysefjorden and offers views like no other from the top. You will get to experience Kjeragbolten which is a boulder wedged between two cliffs. The beauty is that this place was not created to be a tourist attraction even though it has recently turned into a popular destination for those wanting to experience the Norwegian nature. There are no hand rails, no nets, no fences, and nothing hold the boulder in place between the two cliffs that are gripping its sides. The place is entirely natural and a gem that was found in the mountains of Norway.
You will also get to see one of the worlds highest waterfalls; Kjeragfossen. During the spring after all the snowmelt is the best time to see this waterfall in full force, but no matter the season you will still be able to witness it in all of its glory.
This is also a popular place for base jumping, so if you're lucky maybe you will see a thrill seeker take the leap.
This hike is one that takes a lot of physicality to complete. The recommended age is 10 and up depending on your fitness level. But I think it depends on the motivation of the person to really gauge who can make the climb. I've seen people who are 70+ make it to the top, and I've seen kids younger than 10 make it as well. Make sure to bring plenty of water and food, and to wear shoes that you can walk far in. Hiking boots aren't a necessity but they would make your trip a lot smoother. Again, it is about personal preference.
Once you get to the top you will not cease to be satisfied with you accomplishments and the reward of seeing such a spectacular piece of the world.
