Explore The Carillon Historical Park Museum

Dayton, Ohio

Description

Added by John Clairmont

A small museum showcasing the huge technological advances made by people in or from the Dayton area.

The Dayton area is home to many major technological advances, including the cash register, the Bombe code-breaking machine, plutonium triggers for early atomic bombs, car self-starters, self-cooled refrigerators, and so much more. Probably most well known is the Wright airplane, which was developed and built in Dayton but first flown in North Carolina. This is why Ohio is known as the "Birthplace of Aviation", while North Carolina's claim is "First in Flight".

The Carillon Historical Park Museum is a small building packed with tons of Dayton-specific displays, showcasing many of the things listed above as well as many major events that occurred in the area. Plus, there is a working, ride-able carousel inside! For more information about the museum or events on site, visit their website.

To continue the historical vibe after you're done at the museum, head next door to the Carillon Brewing Company where they replicate 1850s brewing techniques to bring you a good old fashioned beer!
