Southern California, normally thought of as the land of sunshine and calm weather, is home to wildflower "super blooms" after particularly wet and wild winters (like this past one). Walker Canyon is one of the several locations that residents flock to when the rain stops and the sun brings out the blossoms.
Walker Canyon, normally, is a system of power lines, dry creekbeds, rolling hills, and utility roads northeast of Lake Elsinore. After this winter, we got a real treat: poppies, lavender, and other wildflowers. And they're not exactly hidden among the tall green grass. Parking is fairly easy on the side of the roads. From there, you just walk up Lake Street and once it goes from pavement to dirt, you're there. Most people will be loitering at the closer flowers, but the better ones are further in, as people are plucking them for Instagram and Snapchat purposes.
Those same people also don't want to hoof it in, because they didn't bring water. It gets warm out there, to say the least. The creekbeds are wet and flowing, but I don't recommend drinking the water.
So, while the blooms are still out there, #getoutside and take it all in. #seeyououtthere
