Description

Added by Kyle Glidden

Pack into a first-come first-serve winter snow shelter with some like-minded individuals and stay warm in frigid temperatures.

A short hike from the sno-park, the snow shelter is within an hour's reach of the trailhead. Make sure to print a trail map of the area's routes ahead of time, or take a picture of the map provided in the parking lot, as the network of trails can get you a little lost.

From the parking lot, make sure to take the trail that starts next to the bathroom facility It isn't as obvious as the trail at the far end of the parking lot, which would take you on a much longer journey to the shelter.

Follow the trail up to the shelter, passing several junctions along the way (some of which will have maps posted).

The shelter itself can sleep "fifteen", but if you're creative with space that number jumps to the low-mid 20s. A hammock or two may even work, hung from the roof supports.

Inside is a table, several wooden bed platforms, and a wood stove with a side room typically stocked with wood. There is also an outhouse just outside the shelter.

Head back the way you came, or make a longer loop of it by exploring the network of trails.

Snowshoe to the Mountain View Shelter Reviews

The well marked trails loop around to provide multiple routes to lengthen or shorten your jaunt up and down the mountainside. The cabin at the top is a great place to shelter while you have a meal. We did not stay the night, but plan to make a trip up with our overnight gear next winter!
