Two miles south of Clyde in West Wheatfield Township sits a 48 acre natural area featuring a 45-foot waterfall, Buttermilk Falls.
Buttermilk Falls runs in the Hires Run Valley, a tributary to the Conemaugh River. This scenic masterpiece is located just a short hike away from its parking lot, making it an easy adventure for anyone. Approaching the falls is an overlook where you can take great photos and appreciate the scene. Above the 45-foot giant sits a smaller waterfall with a creek you can walk across to get to the other side of the falls. When hiking opposite of the overlook, be extremely cautious as there are muddy spots and a steep hill.
Since Buttermilk Falls is a natural area, it is limited in its surrounding man-made structures. There is a restroom, small picnic area, and pavilion. All alcohol, swimming, and camping is prohibited at the site.
