Hike the Haystacks Rapids and Dutchman Falls

The Haystacks is a great end of the overall Loyalsock Trail. It is easily accessible, and fairly a gentile trail, however, the beginning is still a relatively rocky and will require some initial effort. When the trail intersects the rail road grade, you can turn left and take the path with the yellow LT blazes to the rapids. However, I would recommend you take sometime after the initial descent to the rail road grade, and go to the right. You will be able to enjoy Dutchman Falls. Be careful, it will be slippery, but well worth the few minutes to get to.

After taking some time at Dutchman Falls head back up to the rail road grade for a short walk, keep your eyes peeled for the trail markers on the right. They will quickly cut down towards the Loyalsock Creek. Follow the Loyalsock Trail on relatively easy hiking until you get to the last 200 yards, which is very rough.

After the rough patch, you will be able to see the Haystack Rapids. The large rocks are a beautiful sight, however, they do seem somewhat out of place. None the less they are an awesome display, especially in the springtime. Whatever time of year you go the water is moving very fast so use caution. If you go in the winter use extreme caution because snow covered ice maybe thin.

You are allowed to camp at the Haystacks, however, you must get a camping permit prior to your stay, and if you do plan on camping, campfires are not allowed.
