Navigate the wild stream of Pine Island Run, keep an eye out for native brook trout in larger pools. Then Climb to Pine Island Vista for an awesome view of Pine Creek and the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
The access to this trail is from a mountain road, Clay Mine Road. From Stony Fork, follow Dibble Hill Road to Clay Mine Road, once on Clay Mine Road, follow into the forest and park at the first gravel parking area on the right. You will see the unmarked trail at the rear of the parking starting as a large grassy path.
This path will descend into Pine Island Run in just over a mile. Hiking the run is not recommended in spring or periods of high water, proceed with caution as it can be very slippery and will require scrambles around small waterfalls.
Follow the stream bed for just over another mile just after three waterfalls, the trail leading to the vista will be on the right just as you come into view of the Pine Creek Rail Trail and Pine Creek. The trail ascends steeply to Pine Island Vista. Enjoy the view!
Note: The hike to the vista could also be done via Pine Creek Rail Trail as a bike and hike. Follow the rail trail south from Tiadaghton or north from Blackwell to Pine Island Run. Access the trail by the north side of the run.
