Description

Added by Kendra Reeder

Hike along the Appalachian Trail to the Cumberland Valley Overlook. This hike is roughly 6 miles in length (3 miles in to the overlook and 3 miles back to the cars). The pull-off for parking is located at 250 Sherwood Drive in Carlisle (roughly .3 miles off of Bernheisel Bridge Rd). Go north on the AT and climb Blue Mountain to the overlook where you can enjoy views of Carlisle, Newville and Camp Hill. Return by the same route.

This hike is steep at points but the climb up the mountain has lots of switchbacks so it isn't just straight up. The hike is beautiful and during the summer there are lots of blackberry and raspberry bushes along the trail that we stopped to snack on. The Overlook is just before you crest the top of the mountain and has a stone bench to sit and enjoy the views.

Hike to the Cumberland Valley Overlook Reviews

Came through here while hiking a large chunk of the PA stretch of the AT. Great view, it was a nice break from the woods (although they were beautiful as well!).

Excellent walk through the woods ... good workout to the stone bench, trail in excellent condition, view at its best in early autumn. A good mornings walk.
