Description

Added by Shawn Grenninger

Easy hiking through old growth hemlock and white pine that shade thickets of rhododendron, wetllands, springs and sphagnum pools.  Excellent trail for children to explore the forest and then go swimming at Halfway Lake.

There are multiple ways to access and start the trail, there is a small parking area near the intersection of McCall Dam Road and Route 192 or you can access from the other end near the beach at Halfway Lake.

The trail is well marked with yellow blazes and easy to fall.  This is a simple hike, but very interesting as you stroll through the shade of the old growth forest, along Rapid Run Natural Area.

Portions of the trail are lined with rhododendron and there are multiple small boardwalks to help keep your feet dry through the wetlands.

Excellent short hike for children with the option to swim afterwards at Halfway Lake.
