Drive Ridge Road in Elk State Forest

A drive along Ridge Road will bring you to five scenic vistas looking out over remote Elk State Forest. 

You can drive the road and simply stop at the vistas, or you can do an out and back hike from anywhere along the road. On my last visit, I parked at the southern most vista, Square Timber Vista, and walked to the northern most vista, Logue Run Vista, a hike of about 1.5 miles one way. The Bucktail Path backpacking trail crosses the road as well, and the vistas make a nice detour from the trail.

Ridge Road is a dirt road and I'd recommend a high clearance vehicle to access it. There are two main roads that lead to Ridge Road, both of which are also dirt roads. You can take Brooks Run Road from PA 872 (1st Fork Road), which is near Sinnemahoning State Park. You can also take Stillhouse Road from PA 120 (about halfway between Driftwood and Emporium).

There are vistas on both sides of the road, so there are beautiful spots to watch either sunrise or sunset, but a trip down the road at any time of day will be scenic.
