Fun day through a beautiful canyon!
*This is far more of an adrenaline rush than a casual day through a canyon. There is cliff jumping involved*
You cannot enter this canyon without a guide, so find a company and make a reservation with them. I would plan a few days in advance as it seemed pretty popular. We booked with a company called Kawasan Canyoneering who offered pick up and drop off from our hotel which was super convenient. We checked into the spot thinking that we were going to be with a bigger group, but it turned out to be just me and my buddy. Nikoy was our guide, and he was awesome.
You first get on a moped or trike with a guy who takes you up to the top of the canyon. You get a brief introduction of some rules and regulations from somebody from the government. After that you take a quick, 20-30 minute walk to the entrance to the canyon. The majority of it is paved and easy going, but the last few minutes was down some uneven rock and had a couple steeper sections. There is a handrail and it is totally manageable.
Once you are in the canyon, you start off with about a 7 meter jump right off the bat (you can go smaller if you wish). Nikoy (our guide) was super awesome and was happy to take go pros and film and take pictures and everything. As you work your way down the canyon there are cool little jumps, slides, swimming holes, and just general little shenanigans you can get into. Your guide will help you along with where to go, where not to go, and all that fun stuff.
One of my highlights was absolutely the BBQ stand halfway down the canyon. You are in the middle of this gorgeous place, jumping off waterfalls, swimming, and you come across a small little group on a rock ledge that is selling fruit, soda, and BBQ chicken or pork. It was absolutely amazing.
After the BBQ you keep jumping and swimming your way down, eventually ending up at the famous Kawasan Falls. After you do your 15 meter waterfall jump, you walk out back to the road and catch a ride back to the office where the company will feed you lunch before taking you back to your accommodations.
Overall a brilliant day and super fun. If you like a bit more adventurous stuff, I highly recommend it!
