First of all, these are hidden treasures in the central town of Orocovis in Puerto Rico. One huge and beautiful swimming hole called la Guitarra and a 200 foot waterfall to contemplate called La Plazuela.

There are two parts to this adventure in the middle of Orocovis. The river which the first attraction is on is called the Bauta River and it is also the same river where the Plazuela Waterfall drops into. This spot is located in the  Las Cabras sector of Orocovis. Once you reach the area before the bridge that crosses over the you can park to the left in the by the river bank. Once you are out of the car, you just have to walk about 10 minutes upriver and look to your left and you will find the 200 foot waterfall called la Plazuela (later on in this brief description I will explain the details to la Plazuela Canyoning Route). After you've seen la Plazuela, you just keep walking over rocks and up river about 10-15 more minutes and you will arrive at a large swimming hole with crisp blue waters called La Guitarra swimming hole. This swimming hole has a few areas where you can jump off of with approximate heights of about 25 feet. The swimming hole is very deep, to touch the bottom you would need an air tank and some diving fins.

In regards to the Plazuela Canyoning Route, the entrance to it is located about 5 minutes before you reach the bridge that crosses the Bauta River where you park your car to head towards la Guitarra swimming hole. This canyoning route is of easy access and the anchors are well prepared with tubular webbings and mallions and rappel rings. This route has a total of 4 rappels. The first two fall into deep pools of blue waters. The first rappel is about 15-25 feet high and is a very simple one. The second rappel is about 20-30 feet high from the anchor point. this one is demonstrated in one of the photos featured in this description. The third rappel starts out  in a dry section in which a webbing wrapped around a tree in basket case form is used as the primary anchor. This rappel is about 75-85 feet high and ends up in another beautiful pool of water. Between the third one and the final rappel there is a section of the route where you have to walk to get to the final anchor point, this area and task can be very dangerous. If you can set up a releasable safety line as a precaution, it is highly recommended. The final rappel is the longest and most impressive one. You will rappel the famous 200 plus foot Plazuela Waterfall and reach the Bauta River. The waterfall is also shown above in one of the pictures featured in this adventure.
