Snorkel at Tamarindo Beach

Culebra, Puerto Rico

Description

Added by Yanick R

Tamarindo Beach provides a wonderful and rewarding snorkeling and ocean kayaking experience in Culebra, Puerto Rico. The clear, generally calm waters, and available tours from local businesses make this beach great for groups of any size or any experience level.

Navigating to Tamarindo Beach is a simple left off 251 before you get to Flamenco Beach and has a small parking area with a kayak ramp. Usually you can find one or two local businesses offering kayak, mask, fins, and vest rentals here. A publico, or private taxi/van, can give you a ride here for a few dollars if you are not renting a vehicle.

Snorkelers can enter the water just to the left of the kayak ramp near a picnic table on the beach. Swim left and out to quickly find all sorts of wildlife. Tamarindo has been known to have plenty of fish, urchins, seagrass, some coral, sea turtles, and stingrays.

Shallow areas of the beach away from the kayak and snorkeling entrance are rocky can be home to sea urchins, so this beach doesn't make for a great play area. The shore itself is also very small, so don't expect much room to lay out on a crowded day. This beach is suited to kayaking or snorkeling, and the water is generally clear and calm - making it friendly for beginners. Folks who are not gifted swimmers can still enjoy themselves and comfortably take part in all the action if they wear a life-vest.
