Photograph the historic Point Reyes Lighthouse
Inverness, California
Description
Added by Gaby Colletta
Catch panoramic views of the pacific against the steep, rocky shoreline. On many days witness an eerie yet intoxicating cloak of fog that falls over the old historic lighthouse.
Point Reyes is deemed one of the windiest spots on the Pacific Coast and the 2nd foggiest place in the entire North American continent. This lighthouse is a historic landmark, built in 1870 and is no longer in use. Time your trip during visiting hours and you can actually go inside the lighthouse and explore this relic of the past.
There is a parking lot at the point. From the parking lot you can expect a 10 minute walk to the lighthouse. There are some 300 steps down to the base, so be sure to bring water. The place itself is small, but entirely picturesque and tranquil.
