Description

Added by Michael Gabbert

Witness huge waves and the sun setting over the Pacific on the world famous Maverick's Beach.

Maverick's beach is most well-known for the Maverick surf competition and the gnarly waves which surface here in the winter months. For the rest of the year, the beach is still a site to see. With huge waves crashing ¼ mile off shore and bluffs towering 100 feet above you, it’s a picturesque place to take in the sunset.

To get here, you’ll park at the Tide Pools Parking Lot. The parking lot can fit 20-25 cars and sits just south of the Pillar Point Bluffs in northern Half Moon Bay. Once parked, you’ll walk along a path nudging up against the side of the bluffs for ½ mile until you reach the beach. The length of the beach and how far you can walk down it will completely depend on the tides.

Go as far as you’d like to along the shore and sit back and enjoy the sun setting over the Pacific. After the sunset, swing by Half Moon Bay Brewing located on your drive back to the highway for some tasty craft brews.

Catch the Sunset at Maverick's Beach Reviews

The parking lot fills up and can clog the road near the lot. Cars will do u-turns to go back down to the west point parking lot and walk back. There is a short trail from the parking lot to the beach. If going on hikes, the trail to the cliffs go to the right, before you start on the trail to the beach

Starting there about 4-5 years it's my favorite beach off the 1
