Description

This is a somewhat challenging and beautiful 20 mile loop ride from Lagoon Valley Park in Vacaville, California, which will take you out to the rolling green hills and fields of wild flowers along Pleasants Valley Road. When you reach Cantelow, the climb offers a great workout with rewarding vista views at the top and a nice long downhill stretch to follow. It's a worthwhile ride during any and all seasons, with little car traffic and beautiful scenery to boot!

Begin your ride from Lagoon Valley Park in Vacaville, California. There is a parking lot here if you drive to the start of your ride (the park entrance fee is $3 per vehicle per day). Head out of the parking lot and turn right onto Rivera Road where you'll cross over Hwy 80. The road becomes Cherry Glen Rd. Continue on Cherry Glen Rd. until you reach Pleasants Valley Road where you'll turn right. Here you'll find yourself in the peaceful rolling hills and agricultural farms with little to no traffic depending on the time of day. After riding 7 miles through rolling hills, past flower fields, pastures, and through tree tunnels, you'll reach Cantelow Road. Turn right onto Cantelow Road and continue up the winding climb which will take you up an ascent of about 630 ft. Continue to follow Cantelow Road for 5 miles. At mile 8 you'll begin to enjoy a 4 mile downhill stretch that winds you through the peaceful tree-covered hills. You'll reach Gibson Canyon Road where you'll turn right, and continue on the rolling stretch for about 3 and 1/2 miles until the road becomes Dobbins Street. Continue on Dobbins Street to Merchant Street where you'll veer right. Continue on Merchant Street to Alamo Drive where you'll turn left. From here, turn right onto Butcher Road which will take you into Pena Adobe Park. Enjoy the park path and bike past a small grove of Redwoods to your right before a final small climb. Roll down the path and turn left back to the parking lot. It's a wonderful ride!

Bike the Cantelow Climb Reviews

I live 5 miles from Cantelow, and have many times biked up and over with amazing views, a good workout and wildlife galore. Recently my teenage son and his friend asked me to drive them to the top and fly down on their bikes. COVID-19 lockdown free and covid-safe. They are athletic kids, but opted to just go have some fun! Drove them to the top 4 times and they descended both sides of the peak.
