Canopy View Trail, Muir Woods

Start this 3-mile out-and-back at the staircase trailhead past the first bridge along the Bohemian Grove. This steep trail will take you past beautiful Redwood, Fir, and Oak trees. Dirt single-track guides you up to the lookout point. There is a nice spot for lunch at the end of the trail. A large rock juts over a hillside, and climbing it provides a wonderful view of the canopy below. This trail used to be called Ocean View Trail, however the canopy has since expanded due to a lack of controlled burning and obscured much of the view. Though on a clear day you might be able to see a sliver of the Pacific. And the best part about this trail? Much less crowded than the boardwalk planks of the main trail far below!
