Description

Added by Maureen Casey

Once a working cattle ranch, this amazing trail brings you to an amazing view where you feel like you're soaring over Carmel.

This magnificent trail was recently converted into part of the Monterey Regional Parks System. Walk through pastures of cows, through coast oaks, up a steep incline with vast views of Carmel Valley, Carmel and the Pacific Ocean up to the top where a picnic table awaits you at Inspiration Point.

This 1.3 mile trail is part of the very large 4,300 acre park. The rest of the park is not developed yet nor open to the public but this trail is definitely a treat!

Getting There: Please call Monterey Regional Parks to obtain a day permit. They will give you the combination to the lock on the gate. Once in, continue on foot, straight following signs for Inspiration Point. Once at the top, stay to the right to find the stunning view.

Hike to the Top of Inspiration Point Reviews

With the acquisition by Monterey Regional Parks of the former Rancho Cañada golf course off Carmel Valley Road, there is now permit-free access to Palo Corona Regional Park! The trail to Inspiration Point from Rancho Cañada passes through the golf course, across cattle grazing pasture (with friendly cows), and up the hill. Even though we did the hike on a cool, overcast day, we were sweating at the top as it is fairly steep, and is very exposed. However, the views were absolutely worth it! We had a very nice lunch at the point before returning to our car at the golf course.
