This beautiful destination is no doubt gorgeous by looking at photos online, however it is absolutely breathtaking in person and will leave you literally speechless. This site truly makes one appreciate the beauty of nature.
Getting there
Fred W. Symmes (aka Pretty Place) Chapel is perched near the top of Standing Stone Mountain at 3000 feet above sea level. That being said, expect a long and winding drive up the mountain. It takes about 30 minutes starting from the bottom of the mountain to arrive to the chapel.
The Chapel
The chapel was built in 1941 and has been improved over the years up until 2012. It is open all around meaning no walls completely enclose the chapel and you can feel the fresh air all around you while you’re “inside”. It is a small space but it opens up to reveal such a grand beauty. There are plaques with quotes placed all over the chapel and they are very inspiring to read. The view is breathtaking but words cannot describe the way it will make you feel. It is certainly worth the drive up the mountain.
Some tips
Definitely bring a camera – no photo taken of the view can be bad.
Make sure that you check the chapel's event schedule and plan your visit according to the times the location is open to the public.
