Castle Creek campground is a remote National Forest campground in the Black Hills! Camping there provides the opportunity to fly fish, hike, enjoy peace and quiet from the crowds of other people.

Castle Creek is a challenging place to get to, the road in the off seasons can be even more difficult. In the spring/early summer when the road is wet it can become rutted. There is one road to get to the campground from the East from Mystic it is about 8 rough narrow miles, but you could arrive at the campground from the North West as well. Both roads can be rough, so take your time and it should be fine.  When traveling, please tread lightly, and stay on trails.

The campground itself is located along Castle Creek, there are 9 sites, they are right on the banks of the creek. So if you like white noise while camping this is perfect for you! The sites are spacious and have plenty of room for a tent or even two or three, there are fire pits and very large picnic tables. There is a vault toilet at the campground, and sites are first come first serve and there is a fee of $16 per night.

The area is fantastic for getting out and exploring. During the summer it is a popular destination for ATV's, quads, and dirt bikes. There are several small two-track roads to explore back in the gulches of the hills. The creek is a good challenge for fly fishing. There are places along the creek where it opens up and doesn't have trees and bushes to snag your line on, other places it does get dense with lots of willow bushes and spruce trees on the banks.  You can find numerous holes with rainbow trout and brook trout, if you are lucky you might catch some nice 15+ inch rainbow trout. One day I was fortunate to catch over 5 rainbows that were 14-16 inches!
