An excellent example of Swedish beauty and must-do for outdoor enthusiasts in Sweden. Ranging from mountains to beautiful streams, the views take your breath away and just keeps surprising you. Good for trekking with tent or you can utilize STF huts.
Kungsleden Trail is one of the most popular hiking routes in Sweden, starting from Abisko Nature Protection Area. One of the most popular route takes you from Abisko to Nikkaluokta via Kebnekaise Mountain. It is roughly 130 kilometers to hike up and down Kebnekaise Peak.
Peak time could be July, but in August/September one can experience the true colors of fall. The route is well marked with path signs. Have heard and read that the route is also popular during wintertime with fishermen. The scenery goes from nature park into large fields of rocks and mountains on all sides. The flows are freaking cold and even during summer one can find snow yet to melt from winter.
You either start from Abisko fjällstation or Nikkaluokta. Both are accessible from Kiruna either via train or bus (1-2 hour trip). In case you plan to camp with local STF it is recommend to join and pre-book your nights. Huts are located 20ish kilometers from each other. Otherwise, if you are planning on tenting out there, please be prepared that the nights are cold throughout the year and a good sleeping bag is recommended.

Just completed this trail (but in opposite direction) during the yearly Fjällräven Classic Trail event. Stunning views and landscape showing Sweden highest mountains. During our trip it was pretty cold and wet, especially during nights (temp dropped below zero in August) so make sure you bring your poncho, rain trousers and down sweater :)

Been to northern Sweden several times and this is one of the trials that sticks out up there. Very much in love with the region. But as mentioned - pack warm gear, I was there in early August last year and it was freezing (literally) during the nights. Pack mosquito repellent if going earlier in the season, they can be quite a handful.
