Gorgeous greenway along the Tennessee River.
This greenway starts at the Island Home Park and goes through Ijams Nature Center and the Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area. The trail is almost 4 miles one way so it makes for a great half day trip. From start to finish it is 8 miles long. The trail is mostly paved with only a small bit that is gravel. The trail is flat at the start then slightly uphill when you get to the start of Ijams nature center. From Ijams to the Forks of the River the trail goes down then flattens out when you get into the Forks of the River. The trail is an over all easy trail and has amazing views of the river and of local wildlife. Make sure to stop at Ijams Nature Center and Meads quarry along the route. The trail back is easier than the way there but still has some uphill. If you do not want to go the entire route there is parking at the Forks of the River and at Ijams Nature Center. This trail also takes you right next to Island Home Airport so you can watch as planes a take off and land at the air strip.
