Description

Added by Ross Kyker

The motto of Austin is "Keep Austin Weird" and the Cathedral of Junk is one piece of Art that holds true to its city!

The Cathedral of Junk is a hidden gem within the Austin City Limits, actually located in the Artists backyard. Construction was started back in 1988 by Vince Hahnemann and he still continues to add to it to this day! Climb to the top of the tower to rock out on the drum set or maybe even catch a concert or perform your own on the stage!

It has switched to a $10 donation per group visiting and is by "appointment only" so be sure to contact prior to your visit as it is in a residential neighborhood.

Contact (512) 299-7413 to schedule your visit!

Visit the Cathedral of Junk Reviews

We stopped here as we had heard it was a must see when you're in Austin. I thought it was pretty cool - definitely lived up to it's name, ha! Lots to see, if you bring kiddos make sure to watch them closely (lots of opportunity for them to get in trouble). Reservation needed, call ahead to see if there are any new regulations!

You can't tour the Cathedral without a reservation. Also, don't forget that there is a $10 suggested donation. Vince is an amazing artist.

You can read on different sites that the drive is not worth it, so we don't think so, we drove from San Antonio, TX to Austin and we found Vince Hanneman art pretty interesting, there is a lot to see, is nearly ~60 tons of junk, the place is safe to walk even with kids, you have to take care of them of course but is a lot of fun for the little ones as well, it's really fun to explore as a family, Vince is really kind and open we actually brought our dog to the Cathedral, we planned a family weekend in Austin, and we started here :D, great choice to understand Austin motto. Make sure first to call Vince and make an appointment.
