About this place

Get some elbow room on this less popular (yet beautifully wooded) trail at San Antonio's McAllister Park.

I love McAllister Park. Sure it can get a little stinky after the torrential Texas rains sweep through, but on a clear, dry day you can always find a new and LOVELY trail.

The Mud Creek Loop (or the Green Loop) is a 1.5 mile dirt trail used by hikers and mountain bikers. The trail itself is relatively flat, and the underbrush is thin enough that you generally have ample warning prior to bikers flying around the corner. Start at the parking lot at Optimist Pavilion, walk past the playground and cross over the Blue Loop (you'll see a trail directly in front of you with a pile of rocks at the side of it). Take as many of the side trails and bike paths as you would like if you want to lengthen the trail! Some of the main trail is not well marked, but if you generally head right when given the option you'll make it out of the loop just fine. Happy hiking!
