Rolling green hills and stark white cliffs make for a dramatic view along the Sussex coastline.

This hike begins at the Seven Sisters Country Park, accessible from Eastbourne by way of Bus 12A towards Brighton.

From the car park, walk south to a stony beach at Cuckmere Haven, where a view of the white cliffs will be to your left.

Backtrack slightly (1/8 mile) to find the trail which leads up this cliff. From here, continue walking in an eastbound direction for 3.5 miles. The trail quickly disappears and gives way to large grassy slopes which spread traffic on this route out over the hillside. On the cliff's edge birds are often coasting in the wind, which can get very strong at the Seven Sisters.

The first destination is Birling Gap, a National Trust site which offers an information center, public restrooms, and a cafe with extensive seating.

Add on an additional out-and-back section to the Belle Tout Lighthouse (1.5 miles return), and then head inland from the Birling Gap parking lot to walk along the shoulder of Birling Gap Road. A mile up the road, the historic village of East Dean will be on the west-hand side of the street.

Dating back to the 16th century, the Tiger's Inn is a centerpiece to East Dean's charm, and a great place to stop for food and drink. Return to Birling Gap Road and continue on to the bus stop at the intersection with the main road (A259). Bus 12A will return you to Eastbourne train station.

Hike the Seven Sisters Cliffs Reviews

This is a uniquely atmospheric place with huge waves crashing at the shore. An amazing sight and place to be. An interesting suggestion for great views and photos is to approach the seven sisters from the shore from Seaford and reach Cuckmere Haven. There is a river there that most probably you wont be able to cross but the view of the cliffs from there is unique.
