Explore two massive sharp-edged limestone hills that line the Upper Dove Valley!

Both Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill are a must see if you're planning to explore the Peak District. There are several ways to access both Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill but this route begins at the Quiet Woman Pub in Earl Sterndale.

From behind the Quiet Woman pub (go around the side of the pub), head towards Hollinsclough via the right hand path. Next you should see two hikers gates where you will cross into a larger field. At this point you should notice a sharp pointed hill which is Parkhouse Hill which you need to head towards. To access Parkhouse Hill you first cross a stile and gateway (near a water trough). Then there will be another gate ahead. Head through this gate and downhill in the direction of some barns across the valley but then cut a left to a stile. Cross this stile then head downhill to the road. Cross the road and then through to a gate at the foot of Parkhouse Hill. As you look up Parkhouse hill a faded footpath should be visible. Continue along the ridge towards Chrome Hill directly ahead.

The path descends very steeply in places and there are some vertical drops so take care. As you descend, you will reach a point where the path seems to divide and you should bare right. At the foot of Parkhouse Hill and the road, turn right then left over the stile just before the cattle grid for the path up to Chrome Hill. After arriving at the foot of Chrome Hill you can follow the main ridge path which will take you to the summit of Chrome Hill. Be careful completing this hike in the winter as the limestone can be very slippery when icy!

Hike to Chrome Hill via Parkhouse Hill Reviews

Did this a few weeks back in glorious sunshine and had some great views. Steep climbs, nice ridges, fun descents and then all again in reverse. Finish at the pub for a proper local experience!
