Dispersed Camping in Wasatch National Forest
Kamas, Utah
Description

Set up camp in the Wasatch National Forest. Here you'll have the Uinta Mountain Range in view and the Provo River running to your side!
On our Labor Day Week Roadtrip, we planned for a night of dispersed camping in Wasatch National Forest, and I highly recommend you do to! A little east of Salt Lake City, UT is a town called Kamas. From Kamas, take highway 150 east through the Wasatch National Forest toward the Uinta Mountain Range. Along highway 150 you will find a bunch of little pull off areas where you can choose to camp. If you are unfamiliar with dispersed camping, do some research on it before you go. Dispersed camping is free within a National Forest, however, you will not have modern amenities such as running water, electric, a picnic table, etc. Most national Forests encourage you to select a spot that has been used in the past (you can usually tell by locating a fire ring made of large rocks) so you don't flatten or kill flowers or grass, but you are certainly free to camp anywhere within the national forest so long as there is no sign posted stating that camping is restricted. The Provo River runs right along highway 150, so be sure to find a nice scenic spot along the river. Once you've found a spot, set up camp, and enjoy the beauty of the Wasatch Forest, the Uinta Mountains, and the Provo River!
