Description

Added by Tyler McFall

Broads Fork Twin Peaks is an out-and-back trail with amazing valley views and fun scrambling. This is one of the most predominant peaks in the Salt Lake Valley. Expect this trail to take between 8-12 hours.

The Broads Fork trailhead starts in Big Cottonwood Canyon in the same parking lot as the Lake Blanche trailhead. This trailhead is on the west side of the parking lot.

The trail is marked and easy to follow for a good chunk of the way. You will come to a big basin and alpine meadow where you will have awesome views of the 3 peaks in the background and a beaver pond. The trail veers to the left of the pond and starts making its way up and runs along side a stream bead for a little bit. You may have to cross in and out of the streambed at times because the trail can get a little spotty. Just keep going up!

You will eventually come to another basin loaded with rocks and a boulder field (rocks are very loose, take it slow). From here the trail basically disappears. Just make your way up to the saddle. There are a few waypoints to help you a long the way but can be hard to spot. The saddle will always be in sight up and to your right between the second and third peak. Once you reach the saddle, head right back towards the valley and scramble to hit the summit of Twin Peaks. It's called “Twin Peaks” for a reason, there are two peaks, East and West.

The East is only a few feet higher but that is the most predominant one where you will get the best views. Word of caution: there is a 40 ft. crux you will have to climb while scrambling along the ridge. For more experienced hikers/climbers this should be no problem. Those who are less experienced can still do it, just take it slow and focus on your hand and feet placements. If you are still uncomfortable you can always rope up and make the short climb. On the way down you can go over the top of it along the ridge and then down climb on the rocks.

Broads Fork Twin Peaks Reviews

Headed out on this hike with a toddler strapped to my bike thinking I was in for a four mile round trip. It's actually 8 miles and between the toddler on the back and the 2000+ elevation gain it's definitely a leg burner on the way up. But a beautiful hike that is well shaded for those wanting to stay out of the sun. The ending is a beautiful setting. Also for those wanting to go further it looks like an easy scramble up to the peaks above.

A long approach but worth every second. A little scrambling at the end from the bottom of the saddle to the summit!
