Kane Creek Rd. not only has breath taking scenery but some incredible opportunities for exploring, camping, 4x4 driving, etc.
The turn off for Kane Creek Rd. is directly before the McDonald's on the right side of the road. A right turn takes you through small residential area and then places you on a dirt road continuing into the canyon. The road narrows a bit, switch backs, and becomes slightly rougher. Follow Kane Creek Rd. for roughly 12 miles and you will see a sign for "Campground E" take the right turn and choose an available spot! There are other campgrounds very similar along the road. The surrounding scenery resembles a vast playground. Surrounded by tall Mesas you can navigate through the landscape, following old rivers, climbing cliffs, etc. This environment survives on biological soil crust, slightly raised soil, that looks like moss and contains nutrients plants need to survive. Avoid stepping on or disturbing this soil in any way! The stars are incredible at night and photography is a must. Long exposures of the canyon rock paired with glimmering stars makes for some truly magical photos. Enjoy and be safe!
PS - be careful of the biological soil crust!
