Description

One of the great secrets of Mount Olympus, a hidden, wooded path to a fantastic, little waterfall.

Heughs Canyon starts right on the edge of Salt Lake City, but within minutes, you’re in a shady forest next to a gurgling stream. This is the prefect after-work hike that can be enjoyed year-round. Two miles round-trip and just over 1,000 feet, the path takes you to a beautiful waterfall that flows throughout the year.

The trail is dog-friendly and a bit of a local “secret” so you won’t be inundated with crowds. You must walk up a short private driveway, so please be respectful. The owner is welcoming of hikers, so let’s keep it this way.

When you reach the rockslide, carefully make your way across it to the right and climb down to the base of the rock shelf. The falls are tucked into this little grotto. Rattlesnakes like to hide in these rocks, so be on the lookout for them.

The hike offers unique views of Mount Olympus and wildflowers abound. In the fall, this is a marvelous jaunt to escape the city and see the colors.

Hike Heughs Canyon (Olympus Waterfall) Reviews

The waterfall is full in spring and beautiful flowers the whole hike.

I am new to hiking and this hike was listed under BEGINNER. But I think if you have sports asthma like I do, you wouldn’t consider it a beginners hike 😉
