Description

Mount Nebo via North Rim Trail leads to the tallest mountain in the Wasatch Mountain Range (11,928 ft./ 3,635 m.). Enjoy excellent views of the southern Wasatch Mountains.

Mount Nebo is the tallest of all the mountains in the Wasatch, and also one of the easiest to hike, due to the fact that the trail begins at an elevation of ~9300 ft. The parking area for the trailhead is along a short dirt road, which is precisely marked on the location map.

The trail itself is easy to follow. The dirt road leading to the trailhead is called Mona Pole Rd. The trail leaves the parking area and follows a cattle fence across the "Bench" just north of Mount Nebo with little elevation gain or lost. Once reaching the mountain, the trail weaves up the mountain through a series of mountain meadows and pine forest until reaching the shoulder of North Peak at 10,640 ft.

Here, the north side of Mount Nebo comes into view and the trail goes up to 10,850 ft. It then contours across and down the western slopes of North Peak to the saddle between the two mountains to ~10,680 feet. From the saddle the trail climbs steeply up the ridge of Mount Nebo along a rocky, but well beaten path to the "false summit" at 11,460 ft.

Mount Nebo via North Rim Trail Reviews

Very steep with a couple false summits. Did it on a random Tuesday in July and didn’t see another person. Very exposed. Lots of wildflowers and lots of bugs!

I liked this hike way more than Mount Timp. It is fairly steep and the last 300 yards to the summit can be treacherous, but the solitude and beauty of the trail is unparalleled. I definitely recommend this hike.

This hike is a beezy. Worth doing once in your life tho. lol

Good hike with great views.
