To get to the trailhead from Ogden, Utah, take 12th street east up canyon and around Pine View Reservoir. When you get to Huntsville, turn right and continue to head east up the canyon. IN 8 miles you will come to a sign for Causey Road. Turn right here and follow the road to the dam. Turn right to cross the dam and follow the road until it ends in a parking lot. The trail starts on the north of the parking lot.
The trail gains about 400 feet before it drops back down toward the river. The trail has some shade but a lot is also in the sun. There are no turn offs so the trail is easy to follow and dogs are allowed off leash.
When you get to the end of the trail there is a river that is great for camping. In the fall there is a salmon run and there are hundreds of orange fish swimming as they wait to die. It is a fun trip for kids and adults.
If you don't want to hike the 4.8 miles round trip, you can travel through the reservoir in a canoe, kayak or paddle board. No motorized boats are allowed in the reservoir.
