An epic point to point trail ride with nearly 8k ft of descent from Burro Pass to Moab, Utah. Easily accessible by reservable shuttle service from centrally located bike shops.
The Whole Enchilada trail covers a massive expanse of terrain and varying climates. The trail passes through a variety of terrains in very remote locations. Be sure to pack as much food and water as possible and be prepared to service your own mechanical issues on the trail. This is a very popular route so you will inevitably be meeting lots of other riders along your ride if you are in need of assistance.
From the start of the trail at the Geyser Pass/ Burro Pass trail head you will climb up above tree line to an elevation of 11,150 ft. Once over the pass, Burro Pass trail #315 descends narrow technical switchbacks through an alpine evergreen forest. Occasional stream crossings as well as icy conditions can create very slippery surfaces at the higher elevations of this trail. The single track will rejoin a dirt road as you climb and descend through large forests of Aspen. Be sure to ride this section in fall to experience the bright yellow leaves of the Aspen in all their fall glory.
After emerging from the high alpine forests, the terrain shifts to a desert landscape. Tree cover is scarce so be sure to bring lots of sunscreen. The trail continues to traverse along the infamous Porcupine Rim trail, a technical trail with lots of exposure and technical rock features. After descending the single track enjoy a nice paved bike path ride directly back into downtown Moab.
The completed "Whole Enchilda" route measures approximately 26.8 miles not including the 4-5 mile return journey on the road. If you're feeling extra energetic tack on a loop of the " Jimmy Keen" trail for a total mileage of 40 miles upon return to Moab. The trails are clearly marked but it is always best to download a trail map to bring with you in the event you are uncertain of your location during the route. There are a few bailout trails along the ride in the event of an injury or mechanical. Be sure to know the trail and have a backup plan if something doesn't go according to plan. Reviews
Diverse landscapes, starting in alpine meadows, crossing cliff tops of red rock with stunning views of Castle Valley, then across technical chunder mesa tops, then down technical downhill to the valley floor. It's remote and long, so have extra tires, water, a headlamp (in case), and a lot of daylight. It's really one of the most beautiful descents around. And a lot to play off of, you can take an easy line, or take drops throughout. It's fun with a group.
