Bouldering at Ibex
Millard County, Utah
Description
Added by Laura Boyer
Rock Climb near a dried up lake bed and camp under the clearest skies in Utah.
Climbing at Ibex is a unique experience and is located in, quite literally, the middle of nowhere.
The easiest way to get there is to take Highway 50 in Eastern Utah. If you're heading west, you'll take a left turn around mile marker 38 or 39. If you're heading east, you'll take a right turn. At the turn off there are two sign posts, so you'll know it's the right one. After you turn there, stay on the road for about 2 miles until you see some big rocks showing the next turn off. As you continue driving, you'll see the dry lake bed, and you can just drive up to the rocks. You can park and camp pretty much anywhere.
Before you go, make sure you have a guide book or routes downloaded on Mountain Project. There are a variety of levels from beginner to expert (although be warned many of the V0 - V3s are sandbagged and some are quite chossy).
It's not the best climbing in Utah, but the rock is usually dry and not crowded (although be sure to go when the temperatures are cooler). There is also something eerily beautiful about camping under the stars on a dried out lake bed. Also, because its in the middle of the West desert, there is essentially no light pollution and usually low cloud coverage, so the stars are always incredible.

Bouldering at Ibex Reviews
If your into driving 5-6 hours out of the way to boulder on some mediocre projects with bagged ratings then this is the place for you. There was garbage everywhere and we could hear other campers shitty music all weekend. Much better climbing literally all over Utah
