Climb in Snow Canyon

Pulling into this beautiful canyon lined with tall red walls, you'll see a variety of slab, crack, and multi-pitch climbing. The Island in the Sky area hosts 8 walls: the Doghouse, Indian Wall, Dip Area, War Zone, Moss Canyon, Sand Dunes, Aftershock Wall, and Circus Wall. The walls with the best variety of sport climbs were the Sand Dunes and the Circus Wall. Here you can find a good range of 5.6-11d climbs; some do require protection though, even though they've been listed as just "sport" climbs. The Circus Wall was the most accessible of the two, being a short walk up from the Pioneer Names Trail; the wall itself shared space with the small cave where early pioneers left their names in the late 1800s. To the left of the pioneer cave, there are a few 5.9-10a climbs. Walk up to the cave, and start looking for the pitons on the wall. Further up, there are several anchors. The lowest anchor to the left of the cave anchored three climbs in the 5.9-10a range. For a first time in Snow Canyon climbing, check out the Circus Wall first to get familiar with red rock climbing, which is an entirely different experience than alpine granite in Salt Lake or gym climbing!
