Drive Skyline Drive in the Fall

Front Royal, Virginia

Description

Added by Kristen May

Gorgeous mountain road, scenic overlooks, pretty fall leaves.

Start at the Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park) entrance in Front Royal Virginia and follow the road as long as you desire. The road is over 100 miles with only one gas station located in the middle so come with a full tank of gas. There are many trail heads and view points to stop at along the road. In the fall it can get VERY crowded so get there early to beat the crowds. If you see large crowds gathered around a wooded area be sure to check out what they are looking at because it is likely to be one of the many black bears that call that area home.

Drive Skyline Drive in the Fall Reviews

While you might not have the towering mountain views of the west here, the variety of fall colors make up for it. Stop for a short hike up Blackrock Summit, a great sunset spot.
