Claytor Lake has become one of our favorite get aways for family camping in Southwest Virginia, with plenty of outdoor activities to offer.

Claytor Lake is a very well maintained state park in Dublin, VA. There are four campgrounds available. Campgrounds A, B and C are mostly for tent camping with no electric or water hookups, while campground D accommodates RV units with water and electric hookups.

Claytor Lake is idea for families looking to get away and relax in the outdoors. Be sure to bring the bikes and enjoy a mix of 4 miles worth of paved and wooded trails. The beach is easy to access and provides a great place for swimming. There is also a boat launch available as well as a marina where boat rentals are available. Canoes, Kayaks, and stand up paddle boards are also available.

One of our favorite things to do is take a hike after dark down to the lake. On a clear night with a new moon, the Milky Way is just visible over the lake.

Claytor Lake is the perfect spot for camping, hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, boating and picnicking, and conveniently located only about 10 minutes off exit 101 on Interstate 81 in Southwest Virginia.
