Description

Added by Kelly Park

This beautiful lake and recreation area offers a well maintained campground and is perfect for picnics, swimming, and hiking.

Sherando Lake is a beautifully maintained dog/family friendly campground situated between two lakes. Upper Sherando Lake is available for fishing only but the larger, 25 acre, Lower Sherando Lake offers swimming, fishing, kayaking, and relaxing on the beach.

The campground is divided into three loops -- one with electric hookups, one with non electric (reservable) campsites, and one with walk up / first come first served campsites.   Each site is groomed and cleaned daily and includes a picnic table, lantern post, and campfire ring with grill.  Amenities include modern showers, flush toilets, and drinking water spigots, which are located through the campground.  The bathrooms are impeccably clean and well stocked with toilet paper.   Sites cost $20 per night payable at the park entrance station.

Be sure to take a dip in the lake, hike one of the many trails, or lay out on the sandy beach!

*Tip: While dogs are not allowed on the main beach, if you take the short trail around the lake, there are several spots with smaller beaches where your dog can take a dip in the lake!

Camp at Sherando Lake Reviews

I spent a few hours at this beautiful park today. It was nice, empty (weekday in Oct), and very clean and organized. The amount of picnic tables indicate that it's probably very busy during the summer months. Went for a walk around the main lake which took around 30min, photographed some hawks, checked the campgrounds and left in time to see sunset at Ravens Roost Overlook, just up on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
